Some people are happiest outdoors with a hot drink in a quiet corner of the forest. Some come alive at a candle-lit table. Some would honestly prefer to be asked on the sofa in a cabin. All of these are good proposals, and none is more romantic than the others. The season runs from late August to April, and odds are better on clear nights, but cloud and weather decide. If you have only one night, treat the aurora as a bonus rather than the plan, and pick a setting that is beautiful on its own, such as the fire, the lake or the Ice Chapel. Temperatures in winter can be between \u22125 and \u221225 \u00b0C, and standing still for photographs is colder than walking. The result of underdressing is shivering hands, short sentences and a rushed moment.<\/p><p>The fix is layers: thermal base layer, mid layer, a proper coat, insulated boots, hat and gloves.
