So when we list the downsides of a winter wedding, we are not trying to put you off. We are trying to make sure the couples who choose winter choose it with their eyes open, because the ones who do tend to love it.<\/p><p>The Lapland winter runs from November to early April, and it is not one season but four small ones: the dark, candle-lit weeks of November and December; the deep snow and hard cold of January and February; the lighter, brighter days of March; and the thaw that starts in April. Almost every pro and con below depends on which of those you pick.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"s2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_Pro_Snow_Does_Half_the_Styling_for_You\"><\/span>The Pro: Snow Does Half the Styling for You<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>A white landscape is an extraordinary backdrop, and it forgives a lot. Frosted pine, a frozen lakeshore and candlelight on snow need very little added to look finished. It is carved from snow and clear ice, with candlelight glowing through the walls, reindeer hides on the benches and an altar of ice. It exists for a single season: ceremonies run from 15 December to 31 March while the snow hotel stands. The chapel seats around 30 to 50 guests.<\/p><p>For something more private, there are glass igloos, wooden chapels, wilderness lodges, kota huts and frozen lakeshores. December is milder but still cold, and March is often the sweet spot, with snow without the extreme cold. Even in the Ice Chapel the air stays around 0 to \u22125 \u00b0C.<\/p><p>What the cold changes in practice:<\/p><ul><li><strong>Outdoor moments must be short.<\/strong> We keep outdoor ceremonies to 15\u201320 minutes, with a warm space nearby.<\/li><li><strong>Dresses and suits need a plan.<\/strong> Long sleeves in velvet, brocade or lined satin, thermal layers, and warm boots under the dress work well. The photographs are mostly of the top half and the faces.<\/li><li><strong>Flowers behave differently.<\/strong> Fresh petals freeze at \u221230 \u00b0C, so we use high-quality artificial and preserved flowers suited to Arctic conditions, made by hand in our Rovaniemi studio.<\/li><li><strong>Phones and cameras tire quickly in the cold.<\/strong> Photographers carry spare batteries and keep them warm.<\/li><\/ul><p>The cold is manageable, and honestly part of the experience, but it is not the same as an English garden in June. In November and December the polar night (kaamos) gives blue twilight rather than bright daylight.
