Where we add general knowledge, we say so.

If this is your first RV trip anywhere, our campervan rental guide explains the basics, and our guide to USA RV rental costs gives the wider American picture.

Short Answer

An RV picked up at Miami airport costs from $95 a day for a November 2026 pick-up, from $99 a day in March 2027 and from $113 a day in June 2027, which is about $659, $691 and $785 for a 7-night week. For a pick-up on 10 November 2026 the cheapest price is from $95 a day, with a 7-night total of $659. For 9 March 2027 it is from $99 a day, or $691 a week, and for 8 June 2027 it is from $113 a day, or $785 a week.

The wider American picture on the same page is that an RV typically costs about $104 a day in winter and $173 a day in summer, from as little as $36 a day, based on 2,512 prices across 36 vehicles and seven companies. In other words, the Miami from-prices are not out of line, but they are the entry-level vehicle. A larger motorhome costs more, and the page is clear that the final price depends on dates, vehicle and extras.

Two companies had live prices at Miami airport when the page was checked: El Monte RV and Indie Campers. That is a smaller choice than in Los Angeles or Las Vegas, which is one reason it pays to compare the full offer, not just the headline daily rate.

When to go: winter sun, spring break and hurricane season

The page describes December to February as the prime season for Florida RV travel: warm, dry days of roughly 22 to 26°C while much of the country is freezing. It is also the peak for rental and campground prices, and snowbird season means popular parks fill quickly. If you want a pitch in the Keys in January, plan well ahead.

March to May is warm and dry at around 25 to 30°C. Spring break crowds peak in March and thin out in April, which makes April a strong all-round month for the Keys and the Everglades before the wet season begins. June to August is hot and humid with daily afternoon thunderstorms. Rental prices are lowest and crowds are smallest, but the page warns that hurricane season is a real risk.

September to November needs care. September is still peak hurricane season, but by November the weather improves a lot and the dry season begins, with moderate prices before the winter crowds arrive. That is why a November pick-up can be such good value: the weather is turning dry and the cheapest daily price on the page is $95. Whatever month you choose, check the forecast and your cancellation terms before you travel.

Route one: Miami to Key West

The classic Florida drive is about 270 km over four days, rated easy. The Overseas Highway runs across 42 bridges linking the Florida Keys, including the Seven Mile Bridge, with ocean on both sides. The page suggests stops at John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park for snorkelling and at Bahia Honda State Park, and it names November and April as the best months. Camping is at Bahia Honda, among other places.

The honest trade-off is that the Keys are narrow, busy and expensive in winter. The road is one lane each way for much of the route, there is a limited number of RV-friendly campgrounds, and a big motorhome can be awkward in Key West itself. A compact camper is easier to park and easier to book a pitch for. If you want to go beyond Key West, the page also mentions Dry Tortugas National Park among the popular drives, which you reach from Key West by boat or seaplane rather than by road.

We cover more of the same coast in our guide to RV trips from Orlando to the Keys and Everglades.

Photo: W. It then follows the Tamiami Trail to Naples and the white-sand beaches of the Gulf Coast. Stops named on the page include Shark Valley, Flamingo, Everglades City and Marco Island, and December and April are the best months. Any RV suits this route.

It is the one we would pick for wildlife and for a quieter pace. The roads are flat and simple, and the parks have campgrounds inside them, though the Everglades are at their best in the dry winter months when animals gather around the remaining water. In the wet summer season the mosquitoes are fierce, so pack repellent in any month and expect to close the windows at dusk.

Check the opening status of campgrounds and any park entry fees on the official park websites before you go, because both change from year to year.

Routes three and four: north to Orlando and St Augustine

If you want the theme parks, the page suggests a four-day, 380 km drive from Miami to Orlando, either up the Atlantic coast or inland on the Florida Turnpike. Stops include Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach, Vero Beach and the Kennedy Space Center, with Cocoa Beach on the way. October and April are named as the best months, and it works well for families.

For something quieter, there is a five-day, 530 km route to St Augustine, the oldest city in the United States, passing coastal towns and Daytona Beach and finishing at the Castillo de San Marcos and the Spanish colonial streets. October and May are the best months. Both routes are easy and take any RV, but they are long enough that you should split the days sensibly rather than trying to do everything in one.

If you are comparing several Florida pick-ups, the Orlando RV rental page may suit a theme-park trip better, because you start next to the parks.

How to choose between a camper and a motorhome

Florida is a good place to learn the difference. A compact camper is cheaper to rent, uses less fuel and fits more places, but it has little space for a shower and toilet. A larger motorhome gives you a bathroom and a proper kitchen, but it costs more to rent and run, and it is harder to park near beaches and in town centres.

Think about how you will actually spend the day. If you plan to snorkel, walk and eat out, a small camper with a bed and a fridge is usually enough. If you are travelling with children, or you plan long evenings at the campground, the extra space of a motorhome is worth paying for. For more help, see our comparison of a campervan, motorhome and RV.

Whichever you choose, ask how many miles are included, whether generator hours are limited, and what the rental company charges for cleaning and for refilling the propane. Those small items can change the final bill more than the daily rate does.

Booking tips for Miami

Book early for December to March, because both vans and campground pitches go quickly.
