Your guide gives a short introduction, a safety demonstration and a first lesson in the basics, which the operator says is especially useful if you are new to kayaking. Hout Bay can get windy later in the day, and a morning paddle also leaves the afternoon free. Wind and swell can postpone a tour, so keep your schedule flexible on the day.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"s4\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Age_swimming_and_the_safety_rules\"><\/span>Age, swimming and the safety rules<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The minimum age is 6, and children must go out with an adult. Because the kayaks are doubles, a six-year-old sits with a parent or another adult rather than paddling alone. Life jackets are compulsory for everybody. Non-swimmers are discouraged: guests need to be able to tread water, so if your child is a nervous swimmer, this may not be the right tour yet.<\/p><p>Expect to get a little wet. The kayaks are sit-on-top, which means water splashes onto your lap and legs, and children usually find this one of the best parts. For comfort, we suggest quick-drying clothes, a rash vest or similar, sunscreen, a hat that stays on, and a dry bag for phones and keys.
