Our summers are mild by European standards, so Paris in late June \u2014 where the temperature regularly breaks 35\u00a0\u00b0C and the Metro feels like a sauna that charges for entry \u2014 was a genuine shock the first time we visited. The second time, we planned differently. If you\u2019re locked into July or August, early mornings and late evenings are your best friends.<\/p>\n<h3>What the Paris heat actually feels like<\/h3>\n<p>The honest answer: uncomfortable in the open, tolerable in the shade, and often completely pleasant after 6\u00a0pm. The city comes alive in the evenings in a way that northern European cities simply don\u2019t match \u2014 pavement restaurants that fill at 9\u00a0pm, the light on the Seine at dusk, the Eiffel Tower sparkle at dark. Galerie V\u00e9ro-Dodat near the Louvre is our favourite.<\/p>\n<h3>Midday to 3 pm \u2014 the Mus\u00e9e d\u2019Orsay approach<\/h3>\n<p>This is the most important rule for Paris summer 3 days: <strong>never queue outdoors between noon and 3\u00a0pm<\/strong>. Museums are air-conditioned; the queues are not. Book timed entry tickets in advance for any major attraction. The Mus\u00e9e d\u2019Orsay has aggressive air conditioning, a bookshop you could spend an hour in, and one of the best museum caf\u00e9s in Europe. Two hours inside here during the worst of the afternoon heat is genuinely pleasant.<\/p>\n<h3>Evening (from 6 pm) \u2014 the Seine, a market, a terrace<\/h3>\n<p>The hour before sunset is Paris at its best in summer. The heat breaks, the light goes golden, and the quays along the Seine fill with Parisians who have been avoiding the outside all day. Walk from Pont de la Tournelle toward the \u00cele Saint-Louis, grab a Berthillon ice cream, and find a spot on the quay. This moment alone justifies the price of a Paris summer trip.<\/p>\n<div class=\"htf-prompt\">\n<div class=\"htf-prompt-title\">Day 1 heat strategy<\/div>\n<blockquote>Arrive early, go into the Marais by 9\u00a0am.
