The Mullerthal region \u2014 nicknamed \u201cLittle Switzerland\u201d \u2014 is a trail system through mossy sandstone canyons that genuinely surprised us. Luxembourg City isn\u2019t flat. It\u2019s built on a plateau that drops into deep river valleys \u2014 the Alzette and P\u00e9trusse \u2014 on multiple sides. The old fortifications literally hang off cliff edges. Walking the Chemin de la Corni\u00e8re, which Victor Hugo called \u201cthe most beautiful balcony in Europe,\u201d gives you a view that feels completely out of proportion with a country this small.<\/p>\n<p>The Mullerthal, about 35 km east of the city, is equally surprising. This is not what you picture when you hear \u201cLuxembourg\u201d \u2014 a land of gorges, sandstone arches, mossy boulders, and dense beech forest.
