While the rest of Europe baked under record heat, Ireland was sitting at a very pleasant 18\u00b0C, wrapped in moving Atlantic light. The <strong>Wild Atlantic Way<\/strong> \u2014 a marked coastal driving route stretching from Donegal in the north all the way to Cork in the south \u2014 was exactly the kind of trip we\u2019d been craving: unhurried, visually overwhelming, and completely different from anything we\u2019d driven in Scandinavia.<\/p>\n<p>Five days is not enough to do the whole thing properly. But it is enough to do a really memorable chunk of it. This is what we actually drove, what surprised us, and what we\u2019d change if we went back.<\/p>\n<div class=\"htf-tldr\">\n<div class=\"htf-tldr-label\">Short answer<\/div>\n<p>The <strong>Wild Atlantic Way in 5 days<\/strong> is absolutely doable if you focus on a 600\u2013800\u00a0km section rather than trying to cover the full route. We drove the western loop from <strong>Galway south through the Cliffs of Moher and Kerry, then up through Connemara<\/strong>. If you have five days and you\u2019re flying in and out of the same airport, you need to pick a section rather than attempt the whole route. We flew into <strong>Shannon<\/strong>, which gave us a natural starting point around Galway and the west coast. If you fly into Dublin, the easiest section to base from is Galway south to Kerry and back.
